Vaidurya - Medical Guidelines Search & Retrieval Engine

Introduction: The Vaidurya is a Search & Retrieval Tool, built to allow advanced context sensitive search of Electronic Medical Guidelines, part of the DeGeL Project. The DeGeL Project is guided by Prof. Yuval Shahar and aims to build a Library of computerized executable medical guidelines.
The Vaidurya S&R Tool is an Information Retrieval Research in the Medical Informatics domain led by Robert Moskovitch as part of his Msc Thesis.

Vaidurya as part of DeGeL contains Indexed Source Medical Guidelines (written by medical experts in free natural medical language) and also Marked Up Guidelines produced by the URUZ intelligent user interface.

Marked Up Guidelines are represented by the DeGeL Container Ontology, DeGeL Container Ontology contains documentation elements describing the guideline, a Source Ontology that represents the Source Guidelines which the Marked Up Guidelines produced from and the Mark Up Ontology. The Mark Up Ontology contains a hierarchic set of elements that contain marked up text that was marked up from a source guideline. The Home Mark Up language is Asbru but Vaidurya supports Multi Ontologism which means also Marked Up Guidelines that were marked up in other ontologies like GEM, GLIF and more.

The Marked Up Guidelines classified manually, according to their character and contents, at the relevant axis. The Classification includes 7 semantic axes which are hierarchic concepts trees. Each Marked Up Guidelines can be classified under few Semantic axes simultaneously.
Vaidurya S&R implements a Full Text, Context Sensitive search and concept search. The Full Text refers to the source guidelines, the Context Sensitive refers to the marked up guidelines and the concept search refers to the classification of the guidelines.

Vaidurya Project researches the Context Sensitive Search and aims to achieve better retrieval performance comparing to the Full Text Search.

Vaidurya includes projects of Evaluation, Query Template Based Interface, Vaidurya Query Builder Interface and Automated Guidelines Classification Module.
